Q:What place does Jesus have in the teaching of the Winchester Cathedral?

A: Tian says she honors, loves, and believes in our most wonderful teacher Jesus the Christ. His life teachings and demonstrations formed a pattern of right living that we should attempt to mold our very being after. Orthodox and fundamental Christians think of Jesus as the only one who can save them from their sins and ensure their eternal salvation. I think it's better to assume full responsibility for your own errors and transgressions no one can make reparation for us we have to rectify our own mistakes I do consider Jesus like a savior in the sense that by his example we can learn to live a happy productive life indeed his truth and teaching saves us from making mistakes because we assume responsibility for every word and deed we make. I can't accept the doctrine of vicarious atonement.

Certainly Jesus was the son of God just as we are all sons and daughters of God we are all manifestations of the infinite intelligence. I don't think Jesus ever said he was the son of God in fact he constantly said he was the son of man. I think we should take the view that he was born by virtue of natural law and that's a wonderful immaculate conception anyway you look at it. These considerations don't diminish the fact that Jesus developed an unusual closeness of harmony and understanding of God which he referred to as his father. Likening the infinite Spirit to a physical father was a metaphor that was so the people of his time could better understand.

Jesus was one of the most enlightened individuals to have ever lived he was a great spiritual leader great teacher, better than any psychiatrist, and a healer. He didn't start his ministry tell he was in his 30s. I don't subscribe to the view that Jesus was the incarnation of God but we all have God within. By the unfolding of Jesus' spiritual nature he became fully unified with his inner spiritual being, in other words he became more godlike and that's what you and I are striving for and if we follow his teachings we can achieve it. I think the idea that spiritual perfection is a path that we all have to follow because that's what we were incarnated for, that's our main purpose!

The spiritual nature demands expression so being a dedicated and intelligent individual Jesus was able to fulfill his spiritual potential right here on earth and then he went about helping others find themselves. I like the idea that the metaphysical people have with the word atonement. The word the metaphysicians use for atonement is "at one meant" which is a state in which we are all clear channels of that God power.
Orthodox and fundamental Christians have regarded many of the Master Jesus' actions as beyond the scope of human capability but he didn't think so; in fact Jesus constantly said "greater things than these wilt thou do" and he was talking to you and me. Think of Jesus as a human being who taught that through study - self-mastery is attained. Jesus believed all people are capable of unifying with the spirit within and that's what we are striving for; self-mastery for attunement with that divine power that lives within us, for us, and with us.

When Jesus was crucified he knew he was going to die and he didn't die for our sins. When he died it was to prove that you can have life everlasting and he did rise from the grave. Easter is all about the resurrection of Jesus not the death. Jesus didn't die to absolve man's sins because each one of us possess free will and the responsibility for our thoughts and actions so we can't expect Jesus or anybody else to absolve us of our mistakes and transgressions only we can make such reparation for ourselves.

The life teachings and demonstrations of Jesus the Christ were reported in the four Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John they contain the pattern of right living by which we want to attempt to mold our lives but none of them were written at the time that Jesus was alive they were all written anywhere from 50 to 200 years later.

Look for opportunities to serve others just as Jesus did we've all inherited his ministry of teaching healing and comforting and through these good works we can further our own spiritual nature. I am writing this as we are getting close to Christmas and Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus. Of course the church and the politicians of ancient time made sure that it came only at the close of the winter solstice and on a pagan holiday so that they could get the pagans to convert. But it is still the celebration of Jesus' birth and we need to emphasize the importance of sharing love and beauty so Christmas is a time specific of making others happy and of being happy ourselves.

Easter is a commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus it represents the resurrection from the material to a more spiritual state of being. Lent is a period of self-examination and physical and material discipline for yourself which are necessary experiences for us to get the most out of life.
